Cork (Irish: Corcaigh) is the second most important city of the Republic of Ireland, Ireland's third largest city in terms of population after Dublin and Belfast respectively. Cork is the main city and administrative center of County Cork and the largest city in the province of Munster. The city's population 119,143 (census 2006).

The city name is derived from the Irish word "corcach" meaning "place Almstnqaa", a reference to its location on the banks of the River Lee. Cork had a desire for independence in 1491, when he tried some of the residents of the city's drop the king of England. The city also participated in the war for Irish independence and Irish civil war, and making all of this to Cork the nickname of "the rebellious province." Is no stranger to Alchorkyin refer to Cork as the capital of the real Ireland, or their sense of identity distinct from the rest of Ireland.
